On July 18, the Grossmont Union High School District Governing Board approved Eric Jesperson as the next principal of Granite Hills High School. Jesperson will succeed Christina Wilde who was named principal of San Marcos High School in June and began his new role immediately.
“Over his 23 years of service to our District, Eric Jesperson has overseen every aspect of school operations and has helped build high-quality educational programs on his campuses and across our District,” said GUHSD Superintendent Mike Fowler in a statement. “His proven track record demonstrates that he is the right person to carry Granite Hills High School’s great tradition of academic, athletic, artistic excellence forward into the future.”
Jesperson’s 23-year GUHSD career includes service as an Assistant Principal at Santana, El Capitan and Valhalla High Schools. Before going into administration, he served as a Social Science, English, and Spanish teacher at El Cajon Valley and El Capitan High School. His career began as a Campus Supervisor at El Cajon Valley High School, his alma mater. Jesperson’s leadership responsibilities have included special education, attendance, athletics, advanced placement, master schedule development, counseling, instructional technology, school-wide testing, and English learner programs, among many others.
Jesperson has also been an Associated Student Body adviser and served as Interim Principal of El Capitan High School during the 2022-23 school year.
“I’ve worked with Eric for five years and know him as a man of great integrity and character. I am confident in his continued success as an administrator,” stated El Capitan High School Principal Scott Goergens. “During the 2022-23 school year, Eric served as Interim Principal at El Capitan, and he was phenomenal in all aspects. I consistently hear great things about his efforts and performance.”
