Home of Guiding Hands is looking for sponsors and players for its 42nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament which will be held at Singing Hills Golf Club at Sycuan on Oct. 11, with registration beginning at 7 a.m., and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The day includes food and drinks on the course, as well as an auction.
HGH is one of the largest providers of disability services in San Diego and Imperial counties, reaching more than 4,500 infants, children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual and developmental special needs each year.
HGH President & CEO Edward Hershey said this is one of the nonprofits largest fundraisers of the year.
“We are playing the Oak Glen Golf Course this year,” he said. “Sycuan has been a great sponsor of HGH over the years, so we are excited to team up with them again for this event. We are still looking for sponsorships, donations, and players.”
Hershey said one of the things HGH does well is events, and this one is “the most fun golf event” he has ever attended.
“We are going to have the pizza truck out there serving, beer on several of the holes, so, lots of food, lots of drink, and lots of good times,” he said. “There will be a putting contest. We have some things that have been donated, so we will be having an auction. We are hoping for more donations for the auction. Players can sign up as a single player. Or if you have a whole team of four, your can register as a team as well.”
“The sponsorships are really what makes the event successful,” continued Hershey. “Last year alone, we served 4,600 individuals here and in Imperial Valley. We are the largest provider of services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These events are what make a difference in these individuals’ lives. It covers the funding gap that we receive from the state, and gives these individuals access to their community and to be able to thrive in their community.”
