Girl power indeed. During the the second Girl Power Expo held at the Town & Country Convention Center on Oct. 21, girls like 17- year- old Victoria Angeles and 17-year-old Sarah Gehman along with Tori-Dawn Hine attended the event and exhibited their collection of clothes, accessories, and specialty items from their El Cajon based company Labyrinth Collection.
The El Cajon residents participated in this event, which Expo officials claimed had 800-1,000 attendees, which featured exhibitors like Labyrinth, break-out sessions, a science fair, art show, and fashion show.
Of note from one of the sessions, “So you really think your Facebook page is private? Think again…”, from speaker Jon Moffat from Cox Communications.
Moffat made points like twitter has become the new “bathroom wall” for gossip, or customers can go to a Cox Solutions Center and help to set their kids’ privacy settings, and recommending to parents to consider and look into buying monitoring spyware like Spector Pro.
From the “What Boys Think of You?” session girls grilled the high school boy panel with questions like “What should you do if a boy goes thru your backpack and phone?” (Answer: Say “no”) and “How should a girl approach a boy?” (Answer: “Talk to him.”)
Hine said their products were well received at the expo. She added that their clothing line was added to the fashion show unexpectedly.
The Girls World Expo’s advisory board was composed of girls not women, which made for an opportunity to learn for the high school girls on the board.
Then, again, the whole experience of the Girl Power Expo could be identified as a great learning process for all—break-out sessions, exhibitors, and for future businesswomen Victoria and Sarah.
