Floral Craft shop surprises with unique take on bouquets

Taxidermied bugs are just an option for Sanchez among all the creations she crafts. Weddings, dog-house roses, an everyday pick-me-up bouquet, are all within her abilities and inventory.

That is one of the options for customers at Danielle Sanchez’s The Floral Craft; a floral shop located on Fletcher Parkway next to Flour Power Bakery. That beetle, and others, are on display in a glass case, at her shop.

Taxidermied bugs are just an option for Sanchez among all the creations she crafts. Weddings, dog-house roses, an everyday pick-me-up bouquet, are all within her abilities and inventory.

“I try to support local farms, so a lot of flowers are from Carlsbad like sunflowers, Gerbera daisies, ranunculus, and snapdragons,” she said.

Sanchez is a local herself.

“I was born and raised in San Diego,” she said. “I lived in El Cajon since I was three, went to Madison, Montgomery, and Granite Hills. I was looking for jobs on Craigslist and I came across florist positions. I applied to floral shops. I never heard back. I came to find out they were looking for people with five years of experience.”

But Sanchez would not be stopped, finally landing a position with a local florist.

Sanchez opened in her current location in September 2017.

“I have done hundreds of weddings over the years with The Floral Craft,” said wedding planner, Tawnee Gomez, who owns Urban Shindigs. “My company’s clientele consists of all types of styles including dark, and edgy, modern and minimalist, to boho and chic. Danielle is so versatile and always meets her customers’ vision.”

Despite the rocky beginnings that come with entrepreneurship, Sanchez said the business community has been supportive.

“James Davis, co-owner of Flour Power Bakery came over and said, ‘You’re going to make it,” Sanchez said. “I am not typical. I sell unique gifts. I sell crystals, incense, and even taxidermied bugs. I use all things nature and incorporate elements.”

Everything from traditional roses to unique bouquets can be purchased at the floral shop. Sanchez said she she’s a beautiful side of the community through her shop.

“I had two little boys, had to be 10 or 11, shop on Valentines’ Day, and stopped by,” she said. “Each bought one rose and were going to give it to their girlfriends. They were going back to their baseball game. Last week, I had another little boy buy flowers for his mom with his own money.”
