School is starting and Parkway Plaza is holding its annual fashion show to help people find their back-to-school style on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 5-7:30 p.m. This event will be held in the Plaza’s food court.
Parkway Plaza Marketing and Business Development Manager Petra Rich said this is the second annual fashion show at the Plaza and is proud it is partnering again with San Diego Mesa College’s fashion program.
“It is really important to us that all of our events here give back to the community in some aspect,” she said. “So, with this event and partnering with the college we will be giving students real life experience. The experience of planning, organizing, and executing a fashion show. We work directly with one of their fashion professors and she brings in students from her classes to organize everything and gives them a life shot in how fashion shows run and work. We also work with student photographers and videographers from the college to give them experience to add to their portfolio. We also do a model call, recruiting models from the community who are aspiring to do that for their career. We are giving them real life experience to put in their portfolio as well. We are really happy to be able to give back in that aspect and be able to help these youths out during this event.”
Rich said this year, they have store participation from national brands including H&M, Forever 21, Zumiez, JC Penny, and is featuring some of the locally owned stores like Drama Queens, so they can represent small businesses in the Plaza and El Cajon.
“We will be offering giveaways to the first 50 people that arrive,” she said. “We have a couple of card giveaways from participating stores, and we will also do a raffle including a $100 gift card, and some other fun back to school giveaways that we will be raffling off during the event.”
Rich said the panel of beauty and fashion leaders include folks from the college, an MC who is a young model and a fashion influencer moderating the panel.
