The City of El Cajon has implemented an artificial intelligence-powered platform from Urban SDK to improve traffic safety and respond more quickly to resident complaints.
Urban SDK, a technology company focused on geospatial AI, announced the release of its traffic management solution for local governments.
The platform helps city officials identify and act on emerging traffic issues by providing real-time speed and volume data.
El Cajon is one of more than 250 local governments across the country using the tool.
“Since the City of El Cajon acquired Urban SDK early last year, the city has been able to address resident speeding complaints within days,” said Olga Reyes, principal civil engineer with the city’s Public Works Department. “Urban SDK is a great tool to have to provide the customer with faster service.”
City officials said the traffic division had previously faced challenges including a lack of instant traffic data, a heavy reliance on outside consultants and a growing backlog of service requests.
By integrating Urban SDK, the city can now monitor 85th percentile speeds, evaluate traffic volumes and reduce dependence on third-party consultants. The platform also includes training materials, ongoing technical support and regular meetings to ensure users maximize its features.
Officials said the platform’s user-friendly interface has improved the division’s ability to collect, analyze and act on traffic data. The system allows staff to validate citizen concerns more efficiently and make informed decisions on traffic calming measures.
El Cajon’s use of Urban SDK marks a shift toward data-driven traffic management and has helped the city enhance roadway safety while building trust with the community.
