Santee man sentenced in death of mother
Michael Wayne Morse, 51, of Santee, has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison for killing his elderly mother.
Morse pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and financial elder abuse of Louise Morse, 73, who died on Oct. 19, 2013 in the home they shared in the 7900 block of Arly Court.
Deputy District Attorney C.J. Mody said the victim died from “complications from elder abuse.” Morse was using his mother’s bank account for his own purposes, he said.
El Cajon Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein fined him $7,200 and received 11 years for manslaughter and another year for financial elder abuse. Morse pleaded guilty to manslaughter and elder abuse without having a preliminary hearing and a murder charge was dropped.

A domestic violence suspect who crashed his car head-on into a sheriff’s patrol car while he was fleeing the scene has been sentenced to 16 months in state prison.
Eddie Dewitt Martin III, 41, of Santee, was given credits for 396 days already served in jail by El Cajon Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein. The victim was his wife of 15 years.
Martin’s wife called 911 on Feb. 28 after a dispute, but Martin fled before deputies arrived. Martin returned at 7:08 p.m. and banged on his wife’s door and she again called 911.
Martin fled, and failed to yield when deputies tried to pull him over and he collided head-on into a patrol car. He was arrested and a stolen handgun was found in his car.
Martin pleaded guilty to evading police, driving under the influence of alcohol, and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. A 5-year restraining order for the wife was issued.
