East County football season wraps up, playoffs loom large

Helix, Steele Canyon and Granite Hills split the Grossmont Hills title with 4-1 records after Steele Canyon pulled off a 22-21 comeback win over Helix last weekend.

The loss dropped the Highlanders (6-4, 4-1 Grossmont Hills) out of Open Division contention, but they’re still the highest-seeded East County team at third in Division I and receive a bye to the quarterfinals on Nov. 9.

Steele Canyon (8-2, 4-1 Grossmont Hills) is seeded fifth in Division I and hosts El Camino.

Grossmont (3-7, 2-3 Grossmont Hills) is 11th in Division I and faces Madison on the road. The winner plays at Helix next week.

Granite Hills (9-1, 4-1 Grossmont Hills) is the top-seeded team in Division II and has a bye this week. The Eagles will host either Ramona or Olympian in the quarterfinals.

Christian (9-1, 4-0 Eastern) is the top-seeded team in Division III and has a first-round bye.

Monte Vista is seeded third in Division III and has a first-round bye. The Monarchs host either Rancho Buena Vista or Santa Fe Christian in the quarterfinals.

El Capitan (3-7, 1-4 Grossmont Hills) is ninth in Division III and plays at University City. The winner plays Christian in the quarterfinals.

West Hills is 10th in Division III and travels to El Centro to take on Imperial in the first round. If the Wolfpack win, they will go to El Centro again next week to play Central.

Santana (5-5, 1-3 Grossmont Valley) is fifth in Division IV and hosts La Jolla Country Day.

Foothills Christian (7-2, 5-0 Ocean) is the top-seeded team in Division VI and hosts Borrego Springs. If the Knights win, they’ll play in the eight-man championship Nov. 9.
