The San Diego County restaurant community is coming together to support two local businesses that suffered devastating fires in mid-January, launching GoFundMe campaigns to help employees, cover immediate expenses, and fund rebuilding efforts.
On Jan. 12, Panda Machi, a family-owned restaurant in Alpine, was heavily damaged by a fire that left the building unsafe to operate. In response, the Alpine community and loyal patrons quickly rallied to support the owners through a GoFundMe fundraiser.
According to the GoFundMe page: “Tragically, the fire has made the restaurant unsafe to operate, and the damage means they must rebuild before they can reopen their doors.
Alpine has always been a town that comes together in times of need. Let’s help them rebuild and show them that the community they have served so faithfully is standing behind them now.”
The fundraiser is intended to cover immediate expenses for the restaurant and its employees, as well as contribute to rebuilding costs. Community members have been encouraged to donate, share the campaign, and offer messages of support as the owners work to restore their business. Just one day later, on Jan. 13, Junction Bar & Grill in El Cajon was struck by another fire, leaving staff suddenly out of work. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support the employees directly, many of whom faced immediate challenges such as rent, groceries, and other essential living expenses without their regular income.
The Junction’s GoFundMe page highlights the restaurant’s central role in the community, noting: “Junction has always been more than just a restaurant; it’s been a gathering place, a second home, and a community built on relationships. At the heart of it all is our incredible staff, who show up every day with heart, passion, and kindness… In the face of this loss, our team has shown nothing but strength, grace, and unwavering support for one another. Every dollar raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to Junction employees, helping them cover living expenses while we work toward reopening. Your support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or a message of encouragement—means the world to our Junction family.”

Local organizers note that the outpouring of donations and encouragement reflects the close-knit nature of the communities in Alpine and El Cajon.
For residents looking to contribute, both GoFundMe campaigns provide a direct way to assist staff and owners during a critical recovery period. In addition to financial support, community members are encouraged to share the campaigns and offer messages of encouragement, helping preserve the sense of connection and solidarity that these restaurants have fostered over the years.
As rebuilding efforts begin, the owners of Panda Machi and Junction Bar and Grill are focused on restoring their businesses safely and sustainably, with the support of a community determined to help them return stronger.
