Dig it literally at the College for Kids – Grossmont/Cuyamaca College’s   summer classes. Archeology is one of the classes that is offered during this summer’s session.

Paul Cornish, a video game design instructor, at Grossmont College, was busy teaching the whole process to 8-14 year olds during their spring break version of this same program.

“It’s like being the I.T. guy for 21 kids” Cornish commented.  Indeed,  but when quizzed some of these 8-14 year olds were sharing that they have been keyboarding for five years.

Designing video games at a young age “These kids were all born after 2000.” Cornish continued.  These kids, comprised mainly of boys but did have a few girls, were using the design terminology like a second language and in 3-D.

“Bear down and concentrate” advised the kids’ Professor Cornish; a term that could apply to the classes and students for the July sessions but many of the classes in July are just plain kid fun.

Erin Roberts-Hall, Business Developer for the colleges, noted “In the last two years we’ve increased our digital media and digital movie making classes.”

But other classes also fill out the July offerings such as:

-Digital Ocean Explorers

-Environmental Leaders: Butterfly Exploration and Tree Mapping

-Beginning Video Game Design

-Engineering

Plus many more classes.  The classes range in price from $60-$120 and are a mixture of half and full day classes. There are 40 selections either held on Cuyamaca or Grossmont campuses.

“The classes run from July 7 – 31” explained Roberts-Hall.  “To register parents can go to www.cuyamaca.edu/cfk .”

So be it Skateboarding Skills or a Babysitter Training class—fun will be had by all on a college campus.
