Just before 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, Sheriff deputies responded to a radio call to conduct a welfare check of a body in a pond near Willow Drive and Moreno Drive in Lakeside.
Deputies located a deceased man in the water and the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Dive Team responded to retrieve the body.
After conducting an autopsy on the deceased and contacting his family, on Aug. 8, the Medical Examiner’s office identified the 50-year-old man as Thomas Moreno. The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is still investigating the cause and manner of death, but in the Aug. 1 press release, authorities stated that there was no indication of foul play.
