Though district lines have changed, Sen. Joel Anderson’s representation of East County has not, but this campaign redirects his current office of the California State Senate District 36 to District 38. Anderson was elected in 2010 to the State Senate after serving four years in the State Assembly. Though district lines have changed, Sen. Joel Anderson’s representation of East County has not, but this campaign redirects his current office of the California State Senate District 36 to District 38. Anderson was elected in 2010 to the State Senate after serving four years in the State Assembly. With primary elections around the corner, Anderson said he has the experience and desire to continue to serve his constituents.

“It has been a privilege serving the residents of Senate District 36, and I would be honored and humbled to be chosen to serve the people of District 38 as their senator,” he said.

Anderson said he has a strong history of legislative actions and commitment to his constituents that directly impacted the people of East County.

“As your Senator, my goal is to make government work for you. Each year, my office solved more than 1,000 cases for people who had problems with state government. I recognized thousands of outstanding citizens that demonstrated excellence. I authored, or co-authored, 68 bills that became laws ranging from making healthcare affordable to ensuring that we honor our promise to veterans. Out of my belief that public officials should expose our youth to the honorable public service profession, my internship program graduated over 1,000 future leaders of our state. A Sacramento Bee study named me the third most independent senator, as I’ve never allowed party status to be an obstacle to getting things done for the people I represent.”

“As vice-chair of the Senate Public Safety Committee, I helped stop the release of 10,000 dangerous criminals and authored legislation to provide public safety agencies with the funding they need to keep us safe.”

“I have also joint-authored the Citizens Protection Act with Democrat Senator Ted Lieu, which uses the tenth amendment (states’ rights) to enforce the fourth amendment (due process) and protect California citizens from the NSA’s warrantless invasion of our privacy. While we want to stop terrorism, it shouldn’t be at the cost of our liberty and freedom.”

“The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and Crime Victims United have endorsed me for efforts to enhance public safety. I was also given the Thomas Paine Award for bucking Sacramento powerbrokers and fighting to restore integrity to the Senate floor and remove corrupt public officials. I have also co-authored historic bipartisan legislation to enact a cap on state spending.”

“In 2013, more than 2,000 of my constituents attended my annual Holiday Legislative Open House. I have hosted this event since I started serving in the legislature as it is an opportunity  for all of my constituents to attend and share their ideas on how to make our state a better place. More than 40 percent of my legislative ideas began as ideas proposed at this event by my constituents. The ideas I receive from those I represent make me a better legislator.”

“I won’t be content until all Californians have a path to prosperity. Economic opportunity is the key to California’s future. We must hold the state accountable to ensure citizens receive a valuable return on their investment. Also, no family should live in fear because we failed to protect them from criminals. Public Safety is a top priority. I am very proud of my voting record and the positions I’ve taken on tough issues such as expelling felons from the Senate. To review my votes and learn about my effort to restore integrity to the Senate, visit my legislative website: www.sen.ca.gov/anderson.”

“The people of East County will be the backbone of California’s economic recovery, and I am proud to represent them in the Senate. I authored legislation to help 39,000 people grow their own businesses, and I have supported small business tax incentives to help create a level playing field and thousands of new career opportunities for Californians.”

“For my efforts to help grow California’s economy, the California Small Business Association gave me its Legislator of the Year award, and the California Taxpayers Association gave me 100 percent ratings for opposing tax hikes that kill people’s jobs. Further, my office has helped thousands of business owners and individuals with problems with state agencies. If any readers are having a problem with state government, whether it’s the Franchise Tax Board, EDD, DMV, or another agency, please call my office at 619-596-3136. My goal is to make government work for you.”

Anderson said that his opponent, Frank Tsimboukakis is a fine example of what opportunities America has to offer.

“In America, you can come here, play by the rules, work hard, and one day run for office. This is a testament to the greatness of our country,” he said.
