Get ready for a mechanical bull, wagon rides, chicken bingo and a chuckwagon barbecue when Liberty Charter High School hosts its Wild West Fair on Saturday, Sept. 19.The community-wide event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at the school, 1850 Alpine Blvd., and is open to Alpine families, neighbors and visitors of all ages.The fair is designed as a family-friendly evening celebrating Alpine’s rural roots, with activities ranging from a large-animal petting zoo and obstacle course to cowboy and cowgirl bootcamp stations.
Visitors can try their hand at steer roping, milk a cow, go fishing, muck the stalls, saddle, bridle and groom, build a scarecrow, participate in a corn box and learn about getting eggs to market. There also will be games including broomstick horse racing, tricycles, cowboy games and the chance to “send someone to jail.”For those looking for a little more action, attractions include a mechanical bull, wagon rides and a dunk tank.
Entertainment will include a DJ, line dancing and face painting. County-fair-style competitions are also planned, including a watermelon-eating contest and water balloon toss.Food will have a distinctly Western flavor. A chuckwagon will serve barbecue chicken, brisket sandwiches and kielbasa sandwiches. Shave ice, popcorn and drinks also will be available.Refreshment sales will help support Liberty Charter’s fourth-grade team and its planned trip to Sacramento.
Many of the games and activities will be free, according to John Luzzi, vice president of instruction and operations at Liberty Charter High School.“Everybody loves a Wild West Fair! The smell of BBQ in the air, and some country music, its great!” Luzzi said.The Western theme also reflects the school’s desire to connect the event with Alpine’s history.
“We want to celebrate the rural history of the local community and do it in a fun way,” Luzzi said.This will be only the second time Liberty Charter has hosted the event. The previous Wild West Fair was held 2 years ago on the school’s Alpine campus.Organizers are expecting a significantly larger gathering this year, with at least 1,000 visitors anticipated.The school sees the fair as more than an evening of games and entertainment. It is intended as an opportunity for local families and neighbors to spend time together on the Liberty Charter campus.“We are thrilled to open our doors and welcome the Alpine community to our campus for a night of family fun,” Luzzi said.
“This event is all about bringing our local families together and celebrating the great community we live in.”With its combination of Western-themed activities, food, music, games and competitions, the fair is designed to offer something for children and adults alike.The Wild West Fair will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Liberty Charter High School, 1850 Alpine Blvd., Alpine.
