This past Sunday, Nov. 19, the El Cajon chapter of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) hosted their fourth annual Toys for Tots Program to benefit children in the San Diego area.
According to one of the organizers, Brett Dickinson, the goal of this year’s event was “to have a bigger event that would ultimately donate more toys for the tots, we wanted to make a bigger contribution.” The group began at the Harley-Davidson shop in El Cajon, where breakfast was made and served by generous volunteers.
After breakfast, riders got on their motorcycles and drove to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club where the Marines were waiting to load boxes with the donations of toys for the program. At the racetrack, there was also a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing for the purpose of gaining more contributions for the program.
Clint August, a participant and also a host on 101.5 KGB FM shared that his favorite part of the event was “the community gathering together for one cause, and that is the kids. Envisioning the kids on Christmas morning is probably the best part of it.”
California State Senator Joel Anderson commended the efforts of HOG by providing certificates of recognition to the volunteers, commenting “It’s fantastic to know that right here in El Cajon, members of the Harley Owners Group have worked tirelessly to put on a wonderful event to benefit our children by partnering with the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots program. I am sure everyone enjoyed riding on a beautiful San Diego day for a great cause.”
The event displayed dedicated and generous HOG members and community members in pursuit of helping provide hope to children during the holidays.
