St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.
Inspired by St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center student John Angostini’s painting “Ballerina,” this years 37th Annual Haute with Heart Fashion Show at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront on Aug. 16 gathered more than 600 people for a day of fashion and fundraising. With silent auctions, opportunity drawing and generous donations the event raised more than $175,000 to benefit more than 400 adults with developmental disabilities.
Joan Eichen, a past Honoree donated $50,000 in honor of the event.
After two hours of mingling, shopping and silent auction the crowd moved into the ballroom. After a moving performance by the California Ballet Company, students, local celebrities and community leaders walked the runway wearing the latest trends fitted by Macy’s Fashion Valley.
On their feet for every performance of the day, highlights included the singing of the “National Anthem” by SMSC’s Chelse Voisard, Charlie Lizarraga and Bryce Johnson. Also a standout in performance was the student actors, performing a couple of sets from its recent musical “Grease,” a joint partnership between STMSC, Rubio’s Dance Studio and CYT Theater.
Fusionglass Co., out of La Mesa made a special appearance with its fashions from fairyland, a collection of handmade fairy dresses, many of which are seen at its annual fall art show and in many charitable events throughout East County and further.
This year’s Honoree was Barbara J. Menard & the Menard Family Foundation. The Menard family became benefactors with STMSC in 1966 and since then has been involve in the evolution of the services provided, with time, money and an endless amount of support.
Boutiques that participated in the event donated 25 percent of sales to the event and San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles is donating $9 when a one-year subscription is purchased and St. Madeleine’s is mentioned. (Call 760-317-2311 or go to sandiegohomegarden.com).
