Muscle cars, muscle music and muscle food welcomed car lovers of all ages to the 4th Annual Santee Car Show 2013 & BBQ Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Muscle cars, muscle music and muscle food welcomed car lovers of all ages to the 4th Annual Santee Car Show 2013 & BBQ Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12.
“I found a few things” said San Diegan, Chris Abubo, browsing the more than 130 vendors’ booths lined up and down Santee’s River View Parkway.
Santee Chamber of Commerce’s Vice Chairman, Robert Lloyd, said that the car show was the brainchild of John Morley who pitched the concept four years ago. Now, the event has grown from 80 cars to 220 and Lloyd projected attendance to be over 20,000 this year. The event included live music, a beer and wine garden, a BBQ festival and shopping opportunities…even a monster fire truck.
Shopping offerings ran from reggae dresses to obtaining legal advice for motorcycle riders from the Law Tigers and much more. Combinations like a 1959 Rolls Royce, beer from Butchers Brewing, service booths like the Santee Historical Society all added up to parts of the experiences to be had with one perk being the raffle opportunity for a 1966 mustang.
Jim St. Germaine, who not only displayed what he called his “purple people eater” 1959 Chevy Panel Truck, touted the “awesome” BBQ to be had at Big J’s BBQ. Good food opportunities were plentiful.
Santee Historical Society’s Carole Delozier provided historical perspective on what Santee residents did 100 years ago for community events taken from the pages of Mrs. Myrtle Wise’s diary.
