According to psychologists, this upcoming generation has the largest sense of entitlement in comparison to any other age group prior. Essentially, the youth of America is believed to have the highest amount of individuals who expect that what they want in life should be bestowed upon them. Yet, in such entitlement, we have lost sight of the importance of actively seeking and pursuing opportunities.

Opportunities are the means by which we achieve our goals. They allow us to see the world around us and realize the part we want in it. Opportunities lead to new roads and have the potential to significantly impact our lives. Being active in pursuing opportunities enables us to determine our future.

For example, if one is interested in medicine, then he or she should seek the opportunity of volunteering at his or her local hospital. Similarly, if one is interested in photography then he or she should take classes in photography and enter photo competitions. The opportunities are endless—all you need to do is seize them.

In searching and pursuing opportunities, nothing is impossible. Oftentimes when considering them, we question ourselves and whether we are truly capable out of the fear of failure. Then, we postpone and forget to act. Yet, you will never know what you are capable of until you try. Likewise, failure should not always be something to be avoided at all costs. There is no shame in failure, we have all encountered it at one point or another. The only true regrettable failure is never knowing what you could have, should have, but did not accomplish. When considering an opportunity, do not question yourself. If there is something you would like to pursue, then act. You will regret not acting more than failing.

Seize the day. Accept opportunities when you come across them, you just never know where they may lead you.
