This year’s 22nd Annual Children’s Art Show in Lakeside on Saturday, Feb. 8, showcased various drawings, paintings and portraits that where made from students in pre-kindergarten to high school. The amount of entries entered this year was 856. Held at the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5867, it was the perfect venue for the morning of family fun and entertainment.

At the beginning of the art show, Tierra del Sol Middle School beginner’s band started first looking confident yet a bit nervous while showcasing some of their solos, but were a delight for everyone to watch perform.

Next, the Lakeside Middle School’s band, a bit more versed and matured, moved the crowd with a “Pirates of the Caribbean” song and ended with the popular song “Clocks” from the band Coldplay. Ending the morning’s arts performance was the Lakeside Middle School’s Show Choir dressed in blue sparkling dresses beginning its performance with “Over the Rainbow.”

“Before finding the venue we are in now the children’s art show was held in the old community church in Lakeside, we grew out of that venue with the increase of art entries about three years ago,” said Lakeside Women’s Club member Carolyn Fulford.

Just about all of Lakeside’s schools participated in the art show, with arts of all mediums. The Women’s Club of Lakeside President Carolyn Bass with the help of her fellow Women’s Club members arranged to have student field trips on Thursday, Feb. 6, with Karen Bryan, Mark Kitaen, Eilary Branden and Linda Colbert, who juried and critiqued the student entries.

The Women’s Club of Lakeside set up all the art pieces ready to open to the public and parents.

In the course of the morning, the VFW filled with children and parents to hear the performances and see the many talented young artists showcased in this year’s exhibition.

“This children’s art show has grown throughout the years with help of the Lakeside community and with help of donations,” said Bass.
