Presnillo took his dog, Kole, to the 7th Annual Jingle Paws Walk for Pets 2017 on Dec. 2 at Cuyamaca College. Kole did not get coal in his stocking when he won one of three prizes awarded in the Christmas-themed costume contest but received other doggie related treats.

“This is our 7th annual Jingle Paws,” said Peggy Buffo, a contributor to ACES (El Cajon Animal Center for Education and Services) Foundation, who helps put the 1K/fun walk together. “We had 30 pre-register, 30 new registrants, with 16 vendors”

“This is our first Jingle Paws” said Lydia Birdsong, who along with her husband, Jim, dressed up their black Scottie, Charlotte, in a Christmas themed jacket. Charlotte’s jacket was just one of many Christmas touches on dogs that included elves, Santa’s, reindeer and more. Christmas collars, headbands, stockings, decorated wagons, and jackets all added to the festive touch.

San Miguel Fire & Rescue Captain Kurt Fryling was on hand with other firemen. The department, operating as a newly functioning standalone department after leaving state control, voiced this about the station dog named Liberty “Liberty makes your day cool.”

Various activities were held that included a blessing of the animals by the El Cajon shelter’s manager, Keith MacArthur. Other offerings included a vendor’s area, raffle baskets, pictures with Santa, and more.

“We provide services to primarily underserved communities,” said vendor Mary Jane Garcia with SNAP (Spay Neuter Action Project). Presnillo and Kole staffed Caps4Paws. Products for pets and other services were aplenty.

“Santa won an international award for his homemade cabernet franc ice wine,” said Jane Moore. Santa was on hand for pictures with him with just pets or pets and their owners.

El Cajon Police Department Officer Jordan Walker put on a k-9 demonstration with his dog, Jester. Bailey, 12-year-old Yorkshire terrier, owned by Mary Caraway, won a consolation prize in the peanut butter licking contest. Bailey also won the hearts of many at the 1K/fun walk while riding a two-wagon float decked out for holidays.
