Sinks and chairs are shiny white porcelain, the walls are a freshly painted deep coral, the chandeliers sparkle within the 1,500 square foot salon that is so meticulously accommodating that it’s serendipitous, even to the regularly coiffed. It may be a fabulous place to improve your appearance, but it is someone’s hard work and high hopes with complete attention to detail.
“I wanted a salon. Unlike any other in La Mesa. I wanted to be able to provide not just a salon but an experience,” Wright said.
She said her demands as a mom were a factor in her move to La Mesa from her previous, smaller salon in Mission Valley.
Wright started in the hair industry in her late teens, going to hair shows, traveling and developing her skills before returning to and beginning her career in Lemon Grove, where she grew up. A stylist who rented space back then, the clientele she built along the way followed her to Mission Valley and now back to East County. She found the right spot in La Mesa and opened Bouffant in January, 2013.
The grand opening of Bouffant happened last week, a catered event with bubbly flowing, swag bags, and packed with the loyal clientele of Wright and her six stylists. Wright’s salon is named after her favorite and signature hairdo, the bouffant, but retro meets modern and includes everything in between, if that is what the clients want.
Bouffant’s philosophy on business is simple.
“Service. Service. Service!”
In Wright’s competitive industry, her tireless approach to giving people more than what they expect has and continues to be a winning strategy.
“I didn’t just want any stylists to fill my seats, I wanted like-minded individuals. So, the journey begins,” she said, with optimism and focus (and lots of pink). “I plan to be in La Mesa for the long haul.”
Wright is delighted to be back on her home turf, even happier to be doing what she loves.
