The Courtyard Marriott has opened its doors off El Cajon’s Magnolia Avenue, and East County may never be the same.
The first four-star hotel to grace the area, the Marriott has been a long time in coming, said El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells during the ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, Mar. 5.

“For the city of El Cajon, with the Marriott Hotel, we’ve had a lot of ‘are we there yet?’” he said, “and we are finally here.”
With energy efficient rooms and recycling bins throughout the structure, the hotel promises to leave only green footprints in East County. It also has a fitness center, full-service bar and bistro, and 24-hour market.
Nearly $18 million, the project was not taken on lightly, said Wells.
“The city of El Cajon greatly appreciates this significant investment and commitment by Excel Hotel Group to the community,” he said. “Courtyard Marriott Hotels has demonstrated all the components of a successful business venture and we look forward to its continued success in the future.”
Representatives from County Supervisor Dianne Jacob’s office, as well as the offices of Senator Joel Anderson and Assemblyman Randy Voepel offered congratulations to those involved in the project, thanking them for their contribution to East County, especially in as much as this hotel will employ community members and spark similar developments in the area.
Rachel Lynch, director of sales for Courtyard by Marriott San Diego El Cajon, said it was good to finally throw open the doors.
“As you know, we’ve been waiting a long time for this,” she said. “We’re so excited to serve the East County community.”
