With the coming of a New Year, it is no question that many individuals seek to add on to their self-accomplishments with resolutions. Yet many people often find themselves giving up on goals in some point throughout the year—whether they get lazy or they soon find their ambitions not very important in relation to other factors in their lives.

But deciding on how to approach a New Year’s resolution can be just as important on choosing a one. Setting a date as a deadline for your goals can quickly put an end to your hopes before your goal is accomplished. Allowing your goal to last yearlong without a strict deadline can achieve better results.

One could set the goal of losing 10 pounds by summer’s end. If that person does not manage to lose it by the end of the summer, they might very likely take on the mentality of “oh well, I’ll try again next year.”

Meanwhile, one could set a similar goal for losing weight, but with a different approach. One could set the goal of working out three times a week. That way, the goal would span all year long and that person would not be immune to a sharp sense of failure.

Also, one might fail to accomplish a goal by laziness, simply forgetting about or losing interest in the results. In order to keep a goal, you have to constantly place reminders in what you want to achieve, whether that is posting your goal on the wall at home, setting up reminders on your phone, or writing your goals down on a calendar.

You could go even further by telling your friends and family about what your New Year’s resolution is and how you plan to achieve it. This way, your goal will become a significant part of your life, it is less likely that you will forget about it, and there will be constant reminders to take action and achieve your New Year’s resolution.

Make this New Year’s resolution a long lasting successful one by approaching it with the right attitude and allowing it to get involved with friends and family.
