June was the end of a school year for the students around Lakeside and it was the end of a 44-year career for Tina Brady, who grew up in Lakeside, although never really lived here.

Brady said her retirement party was held at Barona Event Center and the theme was “Back To The 70s.” Friends, family and co-workers came dressed in their favorite 70s outfits such as big bell pants, flower child shirts, beads, headbands, and au natural hair afros. Bonnie LaChappa planned and hosted the event.

Some of the former work friends who attended were other teachers and principals, School Board members and Cameron Azemzadeh, financial advisor of the District along with students and their parents who she had become friends with over the years.

To celebrate her retirement she plans to take her family on a three-week trip to Italy, to meet more family that they never met before. Her hubby is turning 70 years old and the oldest granddaughter just graduated from El Capitan High School, so the family has a lot to celebrate.

Brady came to the district in 1972 when it was over crowded and so they went on “year round school”, therefore they were hiring more teachers and she was able to get her foot in the door. Later she served as vice principal at Wintergardens and Eucalyptus Hills Elementary Schools and as principal at Lakeside Farms Elementary School.

“I was only 21 years old when I started, so I have become friends with a lot of students and their parents,” she said. “I went to weddings and baby showers of former students. It was always more than just a job for me, it was my community and my family.”

She was also a member of Woman’s Club of Lakeside and Children’s Hospital Auxiliary.
