About the Artists

Kenda Francis

Kenda Francis writes, "We live among so many beautiful creatures – this exploration of drawings is a conversation about humans and their various relationships with animals. In Totem Flight, Mighty II and Princess Monarch, women and men morph and converge into animals they revere. In Sister Fury and Mother Nature powerful wardens of this earth walk beside their wild animals, loathing the destruction of our beautiful planet, our only home. In Growl, Lets Flood This Dry City and MATA, animals live in the world humans have manipulated, trying to survive and stay wild.

Kenda's intention is to create a conversation for the viewer about the animals and their relation to us. To request consideration of a healthy world with thriving animals of all types and a way of living that is respectful to all creatures.

Ellen Parry

Ellen Parry enjoys landscape painting, whether done en plein air – on site – or in the studio.  The backcountry, and ranchlands of northern Baja California provides her inspiration.  The region offers many unspoiled views reminiscent of Southern California in the 1920’s and 30’s.  She graduated from San Diego State University and earned an MA after working in the private sector as a Graphic Designer. After 25 years as a Visual Arts teacher, she draws from skills acquired in both fields. In her paintings, she celebrates the peace and beauty found in nature.

Julianne Ricksecker

Julianne Ricksecker works in pastel, watercolor and original printmaking to depict her love of landscape. She finds inspiration in national parks such as Yosemite, and Glacier and California vistas like Big Sur, Torrey Pines and Anza Borrego.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Julianne lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Newport, Rhode Island, Rouen, France and Yokosuka, Japan before settling in San Diego, California. She has exhibited in local, national and international exhibitions. She has won numerous awards for her etchings and her pastels. Julianne currently has work on exhibit in Douro, Portugal, Brussels, Belgium, and at several San Diego venues.

Pamela York

Pamela York has taken photographs from the time she was a young girl. It is hard to remember a time when she didn't own a camera. In high school she took a black and white photography class, and the first time she saw the image appear on paper floating in a chemical bath, she was hooked. York says she found a real freedom in fine art photography especially with the digital world coming into its own. She began shooting nature based images and always seems to come back around to her love of the natural world.

The MTRP Visitor and Interpretive Center is located at One Father Junipero Serra Trail, San Diego, CA 92119, and it is open daily from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Admission is free.
