Emily’s Medical Spa fills special niche in East County
One can tell when women are involved into transforming a sterile waiting room in a clinic into a dreamy space for a ribbon-cutting event. They roll down the red carpet, hang little pearls at the entrance, color coordinate every little detail, display the loveliest decorations throughout the place, bring in the most delicious cup cakes in black, white and blue and call it the day. The grand opening of Emily’s Medical Spa in El Cajon was just that and more, a feast for all five senses especially when the music kicked in and everybody cheered up.
The team of mostly women worked hard to celebrate three-months of a very successful practice by organizing a grand opening with raffles, gifts, food and entertainment under the patronage of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, whose president, Ben Kalasho said “My wife tried it numerous times and loves it. There isn’t really any medical spa out here in the East County, so there is a much needed niche in the market.”
Located on Avocado Avenue, Emily’s Medical Group has been here for three years as a general medical practice for patients of all ages. Dr. Niki Jalisi, MD/BC FP encountered many people with weight issues and decided to do something about it, so she partnered up with Sajia Hamidi, a registered nurse, and added the medical spa three months ago.
“I came to the realization that most of the patients suffer from obesity and I also see many patients who are feeling down and depressed,” said Jalisi. “I thought, what can I do to help them lose weight and to elevate their mood? I came up with the idea of a medical spa in addition to our medical practice and I cannot be more elated about the ways we are helping people become healthier and happier.”
The difference between a regular spa and a medical spa is given by the medical personnel involved in the medical evaluation of a patient’s needs and throughout the entire treatment. Both Jalisi and Hamidi are trained and certified as aestheticians and they work together. Jalisi is also referring patients to Hamidi and makes the process of healing much smoother and efficient. The lab tests are done at the clinic and the treatment is done at the medical spa. The patients are using their own insurance for the part of the treatment covered by the clinic, while the spa costs are covered directly out of pocket.
“We offer affordable pricing and work with our patients budget. Our weight loss program is only $36 per week and it covers all the medication, the B12 shots, counseling, meal plans and the follow up treatment,” said Hamidi, a registered nurse who worked for the Pomerado Hospital for the past nine years. She is also a certified nurse esthetician. “This is my passion, I always wanted to do this and I am very happy to be here and worked with a wonderful team of dedicated people and especially with Dr. Jalisi who feels like family now.”
Hamidi tried most of the procedures on herself first. She lost 20 pounds in two months by following her weight loss program before recommending it to her patients.
The medical spa clinic prides itself with using the latest and FDA approved technology for numerous weight loss and skin procedures, along with Botox, fillers, skin tightening, cellulite, laser hair removal and scar revision – designed for both men and women. Jalisi and Hamidi have big dreams for the future as they plan to expand by adding more nurses to the team and offering more procedures, such as tattoo removal and treatment for varicose veins.
Enjoying the event, many team members and a large crowd of patients who brought their friends and family – a sign that this medical practice is successful. Graciela Overfelt has been with Jalisi for a while and she said she couldn’t be happier with her choice due to the excellent medical care she receives during every visit.
