Opening up the season, this young group from the El Cajon American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Region 168 U10 boys 8-10 years old knew they had something special, but have stunned the competition thus far with dazzling defense and offensive domination, scoring an average of five goals a game to a mere one goal per game by the opposition.
Opening up the season, this young group from the El Cajon American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Region 168 U10 boys 8-10 years old knew they had something special, but have stunned the competition thus far with dazzling defense and offensive domination, scoring an average of five goals a game to a mere one goal per game by the opposition.
Former El Cajon Matrix soccer coach, Francisco Lopez has been coaching youth soccer for several years now, and is the current head coaches of this fantastic bunch, who calls themselves the North Pole, a simple name derived from their red and white striped jerseys. Coach Lopez is a highly disciplined leader who practices twice a week for two hours, and expects 100 percent from all of his players, and a team effort is the only way to achieving greatness. Lopez has installed a variety of running drills to promote better endurance, and ensure peak performance for two halves of each game, and also many agility and passing drills utilized to enhance accuracy. Coach Lopez was not available for comment, however has also installed a block of time at every practice for a scrimmage game, to correct
The miscues that occurred in prior games, and also too let the kids use their talents to maintain a great time on and off the field as well.
The North Pole has a final regular season record of seven wins, one loss, and one tie. The team is headed into the playoffs, starting next Saturday, opponent and times will be announced later this week at AYSO.COM.
The only downfall to this season came this last Saturday at the hands of the Schallock Cobras losing the first contest of the season 3-1, which were the most points scored on the North Pole all season. There was a bright moment though as goalie/fullback, Allan Barraza had six saves, and cleared the ball out of the backfield five times, and considerably up field. Allan has been Mr. Dependable all season. Allan has been the goalkeeper 90 percent of the time and has only six goals scored on his watch the whole squad has contributed to the greatness of this team, and should move deep into the playoffs, and if they play their cards right a championship in February. With all the contributions, namely team mom, Olive Mcdarby, keeping the schedule in line, assistant coach, Jose Dominguez for filling in and making Coach Lopez’s job easier, along with all the wonderful parents that are all 100 percent involved.
